"There is a need to provide appropriate infrastructure and manpower to the States where State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has been established to ensure their effective functioning," said Kushal Singh, chairperson of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
"The remaining states should also constitute SCPCR at the earliest as it can play a significant role in increasing the range of publications in regional languages which will help in creating and spreading awareness about child rights issues, as envisaged in the Commission for Protection of Child Rights, 2005 and Rules made under the said Act," she said.
It was decided that SCPCR should coordinate with the respective state legal service authority to conduct inspection in jails to identify the youths below the age of 18 years languishing there.
Monitoring of children's home and monitoring of children admitted in school under EWS category, as per the Right to Education Act, 2009 was also discussed, Singh said.
During the meeting, it was noted that there is a need to monitor whether such students continued their education in school or these reserved seats slowly converted to general category.
