Need to purify Indira Gandhi canal water from pesticides:Pilot

Expressing serious concern over pollution in Indira Gandhi Canal in Rajasthan, the State Pradesh Congress Committee President Sachin Pilot today said the canal water needs purification so that it can be used for human consumption too besides irrigation.
Pointing out the water pollution due to presence of insecticides in border districts of Hanumangarh and Sriganganagar, Pilot said that proper purification measures are needed.
Cancer patients were increasing in the border districts of Hanumangarh and Sriganganagar, and the reports indicated presence of insecticides or pesticides in the Gang canal water, Pilot warned in a statement here.
The Raje government should take up this matter, get the flowing water tested scientifically and make its purification facilities for human consumption besides irrigation purpose, he demanded.
The IGNP (Indira Gandhi Nahar Prayojna) officials should be taken on the task to avoid any human risk and crop damage due to insecticides and pesticides, he added.
