The unique customs and traditions of the people of different castes and ethnicities, groups, geographies and religious beliefs remain as the unparalleled treasures and cultural pillars of tolerance, President Bhandari said.
"Our festivals, which symbolise the unity in diversity and the nation as the common garden of all castes and creeds, have made a significant contribution to uniting the geographical, religious, racial, cultural and linguistic diversity and maintaining social amity, national unity and the common Nepali identity," she said in her message.
Ex-King Gyanendra Shah wished all Nepalis within the country and abroad good health, happiness and success on Dashain, also known as Vijaya Dashmi.
In his message, the former monarch called for establishing the indigenous Nepali culture, traditions and moral norms and values while discouraging imported culture and religion.
"May Goddess Nawa Durga protect us all and may the mutual love, goodwill and respect among the Nepalis be revived," he said.
