The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has so far imported electricity worth NRS 9.68 billion from India in the first nine months of the fiscal year 2016-17.
It is projected that an additional power worth Rs 6 billion would be required to import from India in three months to end power outage in the country.
NEA Chief Executive Officer Kul Man Ghising said that power worth around Rs NRS 14.9 billion was imported in the last fiscal year.
The power production last year was 5,000 mega watt while it would rise to 6,000 mega watt this year, he said.

According to NEA sources, the nationwide electricity leakage and theft prevention campaign has succeeded in dropping power leakage by 4 per cent.
With this, the NEA was able to generate revenue worth Rs 1.2 billion, they said.
Nepal last year experienced more than 12-hour load-shedding, a day during winter season, when its power generation is reduced to minimum level.
