A cabinet meeting approved a proposal to deploy 260 army personnel in Syria as per a request made by the UN, Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Poudel said.
He told reporters that the government will dispatch the army personnel in two phases.
While a contingent of 160 personnel will be sent within this month, another team of 100 personnel will be dispatched by September, he said.
The Nepalese troop will serve under the UN Supervision Mission in Syria.
The mission was set up last year in line with the UN Security Council Resolution 2043.
Syria is in the grip of a civil war following a revolt against President Bashar al-Assad.
