Acting on a tip-off, Baber Hassan Abbas (28) and Inder Singh (24), a Nepali national, were apprehended from south Delhi's Ber Sarai last Sunday and recovered 10 stolen luxury cars and three motorcycles from their possession, DCP (Crime) Sanjay Kumar Jain said.

With their arrests, Jain claimed, police have solved nine cases of vehicle thefts in Maurya Enclave, Anand Vihar, Saket, Shakarpur, Welcome, Geeta Colony, Delhi Cantonment and Mandawali.

"Their modus operandi was that after stealing the vehicles, they used to prepare forged registration certificates after fixing fake number plate. Then they used to sell these vehicles. They have delivered more than 20 vehicles in western and eastern UP," Jain said.

Abbas came to Delhi with family in 2002 and joined the office of a car dealer in Nizamuddin, where he came in contact with two men Asaraf and Sehdev. Later he left his job as his salary was not enough and started dealing in second hand cars independently.

To get easy and fast money he came in contact with Inder Singh through Asraf and started allegedly receiving stolen cars, Jain said.

Singh also came to Delhi in 2002 and became a helper in city buses and later became a driver. After that he started working as cab driver in call centre at Gurgaon and Noida.
