NorthEast United FC today terminated the contract of former Liverpool and Fulham player Tony Warner, who was announced as a player-cum-goalkeeping coach for the second edition of the Indian Super League football tournament.
Without disclosing the ground for the termination, NEUFC in its website said the 41-year-old "breached" his standard player's agreement.
"NEUFC has exercised the team's right to terminate the contract of (Anthony Rudolph) Warner for material breach of his standard player's agreement. We're not prepared to provide any more detail or to discuss the underlying grounds for the contract termination at this time," NEUFC said.
The English-born Trinidad and Tobago footballer, who had a stint at Bolton as a coach last season, had joined the coaching staff of Bolton Wanderers despite signing on the dotted lines with the Indian franchise.
"Tony has come up from the academy, so we've given him a sort of trial period and see how it goes," manager of Bolton Wanderers Neil Lennon was quoted as saying in the media.
