New Air Traffic Control Tower starts functioning at MIA

The new Air Traffic Control tower at the Mangaluru International Airport has started functioning on a trial basis, Airport Director J T Radhakrishna has said.
The new ATC installed by the Airport Authority of India would be functional round the clock, he said in a release here. The fully air-conditioned tower with a height of 25 metres was equipped with lift facility.
The tower would provide air traffic services to the arriving and departing flights at the MIA upto 60 nautical miles from the airport, he said.
Radhakrishna said that the meteorological department would also construct a new technical building at the airport to supplement easier handling of air traffic.
The trial operations would go on for a month as per the instructions of the Director General of Civil Aviation followed by temporary regular operations for two months, he said.
Reviewing the operations after three months, the DGCA would give approval for permanent operations of the tower, he said.
