New BCI chairman accords top priority to dignity and decorum

A common entrance test would be introduced in all the states for admission in law colleges to check entry of students below required merit, while colleges lacking proper infrastructure and teaching faculty as per Bar Council rules would be derecognised, he told reporters here.

Proper schemes for training of law students and continuous training for lawyers would be made compulsory, he said.

Bar Council of India would oppose the Higher Education and Research Bill, 2010, the draft bill which provides for entry of foreign legal institution and foreign lawyers/law firms and advocates from across the country Would hold large-scale protests if the Centre persisted with these 'anti-lawyer bills'.

Referring to the welfare schemes for lawyers, he said insurance schemes for them and provision of stipend to the young lawyers who have in their credit upto three years of legal practice would be within BCI's agenda.

BCI, he said, would request all state governments to provide for sitting facilities and building for the council in all courts from the sub-divisional to the high court. When a new court building is constructed, there should be provision for association buildings.

All the state governments would be requested to constitute a lawyers academy for professional training of lawyers, Mishra added. PTI AJK KK
