New book on Mumbai cricket released

In the thick of ICC World Cup action Down Under, a new book on cricket in Mumbai, considered the Mecca for the game in the country, has hit the stands.
"A Million Broken Windows, The Magic and Mystique of Bombay Cricket," penned by cricket columnist Makarand Vaingankar and published by HarperCollins, deals with the progress of the game and its players in this megapolis.
"According to the writer, the tale of Mumbai cricket is intertwined with the tale of living in the city - the everyday, tough grind that an individual goes through ultimately makes him a tenacious cricketer who never gives up," said a media release about the book.

"The book cites several anecdotes which are now part of Mumbai cricket's legend, of players overcoming tremendous personal grief and challenges to serve the team," it said.
The book "includes the version of several top former 'non-Mumbai cricketers' as to why Mumbai are such a force to reckon with in Indian cricket."
"The book is also dedicated to Vasu Paranjpe and Ramakant Achrekar, eternal mentors and master coaches whose contribution to Bombay cricket is immeasurable," states the author, pointing out they were the coaches of two of Mumbai's and India's cricket greats - Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar - respectively.
