According to Senior Police Inspector R D Shinde of Shanti Nagar Police, the incident took place at the IGM hospital in the powerloom town after one Shabana Begum, a resident of Rahanal in Bhiwandi was admitted to the hospital on February 3.
Next morning around 2 AM, she gave birth to a baby girl. Around 10.30 AM on February 4, an unidentified woman, wearing a burqa with her face covered, walked into the female ward and informed the mother that she was summoned by the doctor for discharge.
According to police, since the CCTV cameras of the hospital were not functioning at that time, the woman, who was allegedly loitering in the hospital before the incident, could not be identified.

"We have received a complaint today from a woman whose delivery took place in Safdarjung Hospital on December 22. She has claimed that she delivered two babies but was handed over only one by the hospital authorities," Maliwal said.
"Her ultrasound reports clearly mentions two live foetuses. Further, a medical slip from the doctor clearly mentions twin pregnancy.
"She has also alleged that when they inquired about this from the doctor and the nurse, they brushed off their concerns citing that the second child may have been 'dumped' in the garbage. The contents of the complaint are extremely serious," she added.
Vikas works as a peon in a bungalow in Vasant Kunj and stays in RK Puram sector 12 with his family. "It was big moment for us when my wife had conceived. This was her first pregnancy. We just want our second child," he repeatedly said.
