New correctional home to come up at Baruipur

The West Bengal government today decided to build a new correctional home at Baruipur in South 24-Parganas district.
"The standing committee on industry, Infrastructure, environment today decided to construct a new correctional home over a land measuring 18 acres at Baruipur," state parliamentary affairs minister Partha Chatterjee said outside the state Assembly.
The opposition Left Front claimed that the decision to set up a new correctional home at Baruipur was taken by the erstwhile Left Front government.
"This is not a new decision. It was taken by the erstwhile Left Front regime," Left Front legislative party leader Sujan Chakraborty said.

Chatterjee countered this by expressing surprise over what had prevented the previous government from constructing a correctional home in the last 34 years if the decision was its.
