New financial assistance for senior handloom weavers announced

Affirming his government's commitment for the welfare of weavers, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced new financial assistance for senior handloom weavers to be transferred directly to their bank accounts.
"I am delighted to announce a new scheme for our weavers - 'Baristha Bunakar Sahayata Yojana'," Patnaik said at a function on the occasion of the National Handloom Day.
Under the scheme, a pension amount of Rs 500 per month would be credited to the bank account of handloom weavers who have been in the trade for more than 20 years and above the age of 60 years and Rs 700 for weavers above 80 years.
"Weavers having 20 years of working experience and above 60 years of age will get a monthly financial assistance of Rs 500 and those avove the age of 80 years will get Rs 700 per month," the Chief Minister said.
The money would be directly credited to their bank accounts, he said.
Patnaik said the state government was committed to the welfare of the handloom weavers in the state and a number of steps had been taken to elevate their status.
