This was stated by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi during a meeting with senior civic officials here today.
Gogoi said new buildings and structures in Guwahati and major urban centres would be sanctioned only on the basis of the new policy, which would include features like compulsory parking facilities in housing societies.
He said the state is facing problems in sectors like housing and construction, traffic and roads due to unplanned nature of growth.
"Even with road widening projects, Guwahati would require huge additional parking space in the next decade," Gogoi said.
He said government has identified certain places in Guwahati which are being considered for building multi-level parkings and also promised to help private parties which take up such projects.
The Chief Minister also took stock of various water supply schemes in the Guwahati Metropolitan areas being developed with international assistance.
