The Puducherry government is in the process of formulating a new industrial policy, Puducherry Industries Minister, MOHF Shahjahan said here today.
The territorial government will compare the policies of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and draft the policy with additional points, which do not figure in the policies of these states so that more investments could be attracted to the Union Territory, Shahjahan told reporters here.
Stating that 200 new applications have been received to set up new industries in Puducherry, the minister said this indicates that a conducive industrial climate prevails in Puducherry.
As against the national GDP of 6.4 per cent, the GDP in Puducherry was 11.4 per cent, he said adding the literacy rate was also a whopping 97.5 per cent.
When asked about ongoing war of words between the Lt Governor Kiran Bedi and the ruling Congress government there, Shahjahan said, "there bound to be always some differences."
A section of media was blowing the matter out of proportion, he said.
"The government, which was elected by the people, always has the power and the intervention of Governor in certain matters makes things worse," he said adding that despite some friction here and there the government was functioning very well and entire Puducherry remain peaceful.
On the political situation in Tamil Nadu, the Minister said, there should be a stable government in Tamil Nadu.
