New party floated in Nagaland

With barely eight months left for Nagaland to go to the assembly poll, a new regional political outfit called Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was formed today.
The first general meeting of DPP was here here during the day and former Congress veteran Chingwang Konyak was appointed its president and Abu Metha its general secretary, according to a release by the party vice-president Nuzota Swuro.
During the meeting, the party resolved to strengthen the peace process in Nagaland and contribute towards realization of early, honorable and wholesome resolution of the Naga political problem in the greater interest of the people, the release said.
He said that the party will make all out efforts for strengthening of democratic principles at all levels of society and to stand for transparency.
Last year too a regional political party known as Nagaland Congress was launched in the state by veteran Congress leaders.
