The grid sub station at Sonia Vihar, set up by BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) to improve power supply to over one lakh customers, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
Speaking on the occasion, Dikshit asked all the private distribution companies to do more to further improve supply of electricity to their consumers and particularly told the companies ensure un-interrupted power supply in unauthorized colonies.
"I am sure, this grid has fulfilled the long standing demands of the residents and commercial establishments of one of the most densely populated areas in Delhi. I am sure the grid will further power the progress of the area and improve the power situation," Dikshit said.
Noting that power situation has significantly improved in Delhi in the last few years, she exhorted people to conserve electricity to the "maximum extent possible" as Delhi's generation capacity is much less compared to the demand.
"Power situation has greatly improved in Delhi. But since there is less generation of electricity here, we should all strive to conserve electricity to the maximum extent possible", added the Chief Minister.
Power Minister Haroon Yusuf, Chief Secretary P K Tripathi and Power Secretary D M Sapolia were also present on the occasion.

Appreciating BYPL' efforts to strengthen its network to meet the ever-increasing demand of electricity in its licensed area, Yusuf hoped that commissioning of the grid will improve supply of power in the area.
Ramesh Narayanan, CEO of BYPL said the company has added 10 grids to its network since starting its operation in 2002.
In addition, commissioning of the grid will further improve power supply to the Sonia Vihar water treatment plant, which supplies water to large parts of the national capital. The grid will also supply electricity to the proposed 'Signature' bridge. PTI MPB
