"New quota of ration for Gujjar and Bakerwal community and migrant population has been sanctioned by the Government of India (GoI) and ration cards will be issued to them soon in Jammu and Kashmir," Minister for Transport and CAPD, Qamar Ali Akhoon, said.

The government will provide ration at BPL rates to Nari Niketans, Bal Ashrams, orphanages, shelter homes for the destitute, residential hostels of private schools, hostels for SCs and STs, he also said.

He asked the district administration of both Udhampur and Reasi districts to involve public representatives, especially Panches and Sarpanches for the identification of deserving BPL families and help the authorities to cover these.

To bring transparency and accountability in the public distribution system, the Minister directed the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) department functionaries to go to field areas and enquire about problems faced by beneficiaries.
