DMD is a devastating, life threatening genetic neuromuscular disorder affecting only boys and approximately one in 3,500 children were affected around the world, Lakshmi said. The recent survery in five districts of Coimbatore, Erode, Tirupur, Karur and Namakkal revealed that the incident was two and half times more comparing to world average, showing one to 1,000 children, she said.
The Duchenne patients, boys and young men, progressively loose their physical function before they inevitably die of this cruel disease without crossing their teenage, Lakshmi said.
On cure and medication, she said the recent treatment proved that quality of life was improved after going through Ayurveda, like reduction of frequent fall while walking, climbing of steps improved and breathing also improved, while in modern medicine it was only steroid.
