With almost 23,700 participants ready to run the streets here on May 15, Procam International and government authorities today announced a new route for the ninth edition of TCS World 10K.
"This year we have made the route a little simpler, lesser turns and more variations in terms of terrain. Previously it was mostly upward route but now it is more gradient," Race Director Hugh Jones told reporters here.
Asked what was the thinking behind changing the route, Jones said, "Anything fast is quite an attraction, and achievements relating to faster time, we thought, is good for the event, and hence we thought of changing the route."
When asked whether people can expect fastest time ever clocked in this even due to the simplified route, Jones said the platform is there but it depends on whether the athlete wants to run fast from the early stage of the run.
"Expectation is a very big word, but certainly there is a platform to achieve the fastest time ever in the event. It all depends on whether the athletes want to run fast from the very beginning of the run," Jones said.
