To make the children aware about Indian culture and values, Rajasthan government has planned to introduce a new syllabus in the schools from next academic session, which would include stories of 'mahapursh' (great leaders) among other topics.
The new syllabus, for class one to 12, would bring major changes in books covering Indian culture, moral science and would include stories of 'mahapurush' (great leaders) and latest technologies, Rajasthan Minister of State for Education Vasudev Devanani said on Teachers Day yesterday.
Students should learn about 'mahapurush', take lessons from their lives, the minister said.
The new curriculum would not only increase the student's knowledge but also prepare them for global competition and present day challenges, he said.
Books would be printed according to the new syllabus and distributed to students of over 83,500 schools in the state, Devanani said.
Following objection from teachers' association and groups against increasing school duration by 40 minutes, the minister said, the state Education Department has decided to reduce it by 20 minutes and do away with separate timings during winters and summers.

The state government had increased the school duration by 40 minutes from July 1, Devanani said, adding, the total duration would now be of 6 hours and 10 minutes.
At present, school hours are from 7:15 AM to 1:45 PM in summers and from 8:15 AM to 2:45 PM during winter season.
The minister also announced the government would introduce its "transfer policy" for school teachers which would be implemented from the academic session of 2016-17.
The new policy would soon be uploaded on the official website of the Education Department and suggestion in this regard would be taken from teachers and public, he said.
On the objections raised by teachers' associations over the new staffing pattern, the minister said that if there were any anomalies in the pattern it would be corrected, but it can not be deleted.
Devnanai said, there should not be any "trade-unionism in education", so that Rajasthan's education standard could match with other states.
