Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu tonight flagged off the train, the first-ever single stop superfast service between Secunderabad and Vijayawada and non-stop between Guntur and Secunderabad.
This train, which runs six days a week, has been introduced primarily for the convenience of Government employees commuting between Vijayawada and Hyderabad (and its twin city Secunderabad) during the transition period when the State Departments are being shifted to the new capital region (located between Vijayawada-Guntur).
In the return, the train leaves Secunderabad at 5.30 am and reach Vijayawada at 11 am.
Prabhu and Naidu also laid the foundation stone, through a remote video link, for the doubling of existing rail line between Guntakal and Kalluru in Anantapuramu district.
The project, which also includes electrification of the tracks, is being taken up at a cost of Rs 323 crore to ease congestion and enhance section capacity. The doubling will facilitate fast movement of freight and passenger traffic on the busy Mumbai-Bengaluru line.
