A preliminary discussion about what would be called the Tamil National Front was held here today.
The leader of the oldest Tamil party, Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF), Veerasingham Anandasangaree has taken the initiative and consists of politicians from the minority who had opposed the LTTE's separatist campaign.
The politicians include the veteran leader of the Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) Douglas Devananda, who is currently undergoing trial by video conferencing over a shooting incident in Chennai in 1987.
Tamil groups who opposed the LTTE are not pleased with their moderate role since the military crushed the group in 2009.
