Announcing this, Airport Advisory Committee chairman Saugata Roy, MP and former union minister said today Governor M K Narayanan and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee would also be invited to the programme.
The operational trial run however, would be held on January 23, he said. Full fledged operations would start only after two months, he added.
The total modernisation cost incurred was to the tune of Rs 2300 crore. This is the only airport in the country to have been developed by the Airport Authority of India, Airport Director B P Sharma said.
He said the Centre had sanctioned Rs 240 crore for a new Air Traffic Control Tower and work on the project would start soon.
The new terminal has attracted the interest of airlines that are considering extending their operations to Kolkata. these include Malaysia Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Japan Airlines and Fly Dubai.
At present, Luxury AC bus services to and fro from the airport operate till 9 p.M. On five routes, Roy said adding that the services would be extended to one more route and the private operators would be requested to operate services till 12.230 a.M.
Prepaid taxi services from the airport were regular, he added.
