New TV channel fully dedicated to Bengali movies

Channel officials said they have tied up with big production houses in the city to build up a library of more than 350 films.

Coming from the stable of Star India network, Jalsha Movies would be available across all DTH platforms.

With Tollywood superstar Dev as its brand ambassador, the channel will commence its journey with the television premiere of the Jeet starrer hit film 'Awara'.

Jalsha Movies will compete with two other channels in the category - 'Sony Aath', which also screens tele-films and tele-serials besides movies, and Zee Bangla Cinema.

Kevin Vaz, president and general manager of Star Jalsha, said, "We are redefining the pleasure of watching movies by bringing the biggest movie hall in Bengal to every Bengali home".

The Bengali film industry is also excited on finding a new platform for its movies.

Producer and distributor Mahendra Soni of Shree Venkatesh Films said this launch is also good for the entertainment industry of Bengal to further strengthen its bond with cinema lovers.

Producer-director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury said, "Jalsha Movies is launching at a time when the Bengali film industry is buzzing with fresh ideas from talented filmmakers. It will surely provide a strong platform for these young artists to connect with the audience".
