Accompanied by state Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal, Deputy Speaker Anusuya Prasad Maikhuri and a host of ministers and officials, Bahuguna inspected some plots in Raipur and said the area was appropriate for the project due to enough availability of land.
However, he said, all parties including the Opposition will be taken into confidence before a plot is finally selected for the purpose by the state Assembly Speaker.
He said there will be no dearth of funds for constructing the new Vidhan Bhawan.
He said efforts will be made to ensure that the new Vidhan Bhawan in Dehradun is built in two years.
About 160 acres of government land is available in Raipur, Principal Secretary (revenue) Om Prakash told Bahuguna while briefing him and Kunjwal about the status of land availability in the area.
Kunjwal said as Raipur is a reserved forest area it will have to be deforested before the project is launched. Some more sites may be inspected for the purpose, he said.
The state has long been in the need of a new Assembly building as the present Vidhan Sabha has a limited space.
