City-based Geedee Technical Training Institute (GTIT) has set up a "World Class" welding institute here, claimed to be the first of its kind in South India.
An Indo-Malaysian joint venture, first of its kind institute in the private sector in the Country, between GTTI and Welding Institute Malayasia (WIM), is catering to all the welding process with advanced technology equipment, GTTI Director, G D Rajkumar, said at the launch today.
While the technical support was provided by WIM, the curriculum and syllabus have been jointly designed by Geedee and WIM, based on their over four decades experience in the manufacturing sector, he said.
Somenath Ghosh, Chairman, IT sub-committee, Indian Institute of Welding, Kolkatta, said there was a huge shortage of qualified welding technicians across industries, not just in India but world over and the certified ones went in search of greener pasture, leaving the requirement for such skilled workers in the country in the lurch.
WIM had invested about Rs one crore on equipment and marketing and was also keen to place certified technicians, Jim Kerins, Regional General Manager, Asia Pacific, Welding Institute (UK), said.
The Institute would impart training in industry oriented welding program such as structural welding, art welding, for the automobile industry, shipping, profile cutting and also contemplating robot welding,' he said.
