The vigil, took place on February 5, held outside the 90-seat home of the LAByrinth Theatre Company, where Hoffman had long been a member. And at 7:45 pm, Broadway's lights turned off for a minute, reported the New York Post.
"We come together tonight in a spirit of terrible mourning and incredible loss. But we also come together to celebrate a remarkable life," Jim Martin, a Jesuit priest and LAByrinth member, told the crowd of about 200 people who came to mourn the death.
Hoffman joined the company in 1995, directing and starring in a number of productions.
A private funeral will be held tomorrow in New York City.
