The Husband and in-laws of a newly-wed woman were booked for dowry death after she was found dead at their residence in Lajpat Nagar colony here today, police said.
Body of 24-year-old Neha, who was pregnant, was found lying on the bed at her in-laws' residence this morning by police. The in-laws informed the police that they had disentangled the body hanging from the ceiling fan, ASP Asheesh Srivastava said.
Neha got married to Nand Kishore six months ago, he said.
However, the woman's mother has lodged a complaint alleging her daughter was often tortured for dowry by her in-laws and that they killed her, Srivastava said.
An FIR has been registered against Nand Kishore, his mother and younger brother under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 304B (dowry death), 498A (subjecting woman to cruelty) and Sections 3/4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, he added.
The woman's body has been sent for post-mortem and investigation is on to ascertain whether Neha was murdered or she committed suicide. Action will be taken accordingly after the probe, the ASP said.
