A Hyderabad-based company has been entrusted with the task of disposing the industrial waste generated from Pithampur Industrial area under MP Waste Management Project.
"However, the company is not disposing the waste in a proper manner, which is causing threat to the region's environment," Lok Maitri Coordinator, Gautam Kothari told reporters.
The landfill constructed by the company is "substandard" and poisonous material is seeping into the ground and also in surrounding areas, he said.
Kothari said that a former employee of the company has informed in an affidavit about these "misdeeds" to the Union Environment Minister, Central Pollution Control Board, Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board and Divisional Commissioner, Indore.
