An NGO is launching a drive envisaging planting of as many as 10 lakh trees over next five years in Visakhapatnam and adjoining areas in a bid to restore the green cover destroyed by cyclone Hudhud last month.
The Umar Alisha Rural Development Trust (UARDT), under its 'MakeVizaggreen' initiative, is using information technology, crowd sourcing, geocoding, and social media to encourage people to participate in the project, it said in a release today.
The NGO has appealed people to come forward and adopt a tree for Rs 1500 which will be planted in the name of the concerned person.
"The donors will receive a picture and location of the tree, and will be able to share the picture and location of the tree on social media," the release said.
UARDT said it will ensure that only trees of highest quality are selected, planted and maintained in a environmentally-friendly manner for a period of 2 years.
