At total number of 39,698 road accidents took place resulting in injuries to 41204 persons while claimed 9292 lives in MP as per the National Crime Records Bureau, Kamaljit Soi, chairman of Raahat, said in a press release.
According to some recent surveys and newspapers reports, one of the major reasons for the road accidents was high speed of commercial vehicles on highways, Soi, who is also a member of National Road Council, Ministry of Road Transport and Highway, stated.
The Supreme Court in 2002 had issued directions for fitment of speed governors to save lives to all the states, but states did not follow the directives, the statement added.
The government should start procuring speed governors and get them installed in vehicles, especially commercial to reduce the number of accidents.
