In a breather to vintage car aficionados, the National Green Tribunal today allowed a motor vehicle club to organise a car rally in the national capital.
A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar granted permission to Heritage Motoring Club of India which had sought its nod to organise 50th Statesman Vintage and Classic Car Rally from Modern School, Barakhamba Road to Greater Noida on February 26-28.
The tribunal, however, clarified that its order would be subject to final orders of the bench on the plea.
The petition had sought exemption as the NGT's November 26, 2014 order has banned plying of cars which were over 15-years-old on Delhi roads, thus disqualifying vintage cars from participating in any rally.
On February 5, the tribunal had allowed the sixth edition of 21 Gun Salute International Vintage car rally here on February 6 and 7 for three hours from Red Fort to Greater Noida.
Relaxing the ban for a day, it had said, "We make it clear that none of the vintage cars would be otherwise permitted on the roads of NCR, Delhi nor any authority would issue fitness certificate to them without specific order of the tribunal.
