The National Green Tribunal has directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to shut down within 30 days all the units carrying out the business of dismantling of heavy vehicles without authorisation.
A green bench headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar ordered DPCC to immediately issue notice by media publication to such businesses that if the authorisation is not obtained within 30 days from the date of such publication all the units shall be shut down and be sealed, if necessary.
"We direct that the DPCC shall shut down all the units which are carrying on business of dismantling of vehicle/machinery, particularly heavy vehicle with help of gas cutter and are dealing with used oil in that process or otherwise within their jurisdiction...
"No unit after expiry of 30 days from the date of such publication of notice shall be permitted to carry on such business, unless they have obtained consent of the Board and authorisation from the competent authority to deal with hazardous substances," the bench said.
It also directed all the SHOs of the concerned police stations to extend full cooperation and provide police aid to DPCC officials and DDA officials in effective implementation of the order of the tribunal.
The tribunal's order came over the contention raised by members of the Mayapuri Association of Industrial Units that they were being punished for obeying the law and carrying out the orders of the tribunal.
