Hitting back at the Congress for accusing the Centre of shying away from a CBI probe into the NH-74 scam to protect the "big fish" involved in it, the BJP today asked the opposition party not to rush to conclusions.
"It is premature on part of the Congress to raise a hue and cry over the matter.
"The CBI has 90 days' time from the day of recommendation to begin its probe into any scam and that period is still on. It should have patience," Pradesh BJP president Ajay Bhatt told reporters here in reply to a question.
"The chief minister has recommended a probe by the top investigating agency into the scam and he has not withdrawn it.
"That is reason enough to believe that the probe will begin in due course. We still have time and the Congress should not get impatient," he said.
When told that the Congress is preparing to strongly raise the issue inside and outside Parliament accusing the BJP of delaying the probe in a bid to protect the "big fish" involved in the scam, Bhatt said it was the opposition party and it had the right to raise whatever issue it thought fit to raise in a democracy.

Mahila Congress national president Shobha Oza had yesterday accused the Centre of shielding the "big fish" involved in the scam and had threatened to vehemently raise the issue inside and outside Parliament.
Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had recommended a CBI probe into the NH-74 scam on March 25 a week after being sworn in but the investigating agency is yet to initiate a probe into the irregularities running into at least Rs 240 crore.
Earlier, Bhatt began a fortnight-long Deendayal Upadhyay Samapark Mahabhiyan by launching a toll free number and releasing a sticker to make new members and connect with the masses at the booth level.
"The Mahabhiyan which marks the birth centenary year of Deendayan Upadhyay ji is aimed at strengthening and activating the party at the grassroots especially in remote rural areas where our presence might be thin.
"Our slogan of a Congress mukt Bharat has slightly changed now to a BJP yukt Bharat and the Mahabhiyan is a step taken in that direction," he said.
50 new members will be made every day at each booth across the state during the campaign which will go on till June 15, he said.
One of the objectives of the drive is to take the party's programmes and policies to every doorstep and familiarise the younger generation with the party's ideology.
