Abducted NHPC general manager Anil Kumar Agarwal remained untraced for the third day today even as two persons were arrested from near Assam- Arunachal Pradesh border and five others, including a woman, were detained in connection with the case.
Assam Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) A P Rout said police arrested a person named Putu Musahary who had used his mobile phone during Agarwal's abduction.
The owner of a motorbike Nijoon Basumatary was the other to be arrested during the day, he said, adding the five were detained as they were suspected to have given shelter to the kidnappers who are believed to be members of the banned NDFB.
Rout said the militants had called NHPC officials twice but there was no conversation about Agarwal's release or ransom. Police are trying to trace the call.
Six terrorists of NDFB used four bikes to kidnap Agarwal on Saturday night from Charduar when the NHPC general manager crossed the inner line gate at Bhalukpung on his way to Guwahati from Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, police said.
Three motorcycles have so far been recovered. Yesterday, one person and two motorcycles were seized near the border.
Agarwal, who hails from Faridabad in Haryana, has been posted at Tawang at NHPC's Chu-I hydel power project for the past one year.
