NHPC temporarily shuts down 231-MW project in HP due to rains

State-run NHPC Ltd today said it has temporarily shut down 231 MW Chamera-III project in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh due to landslides after heavy rains in the region.
"Chamera-lll power station is under complete shutdown since August 11, 2015 due to heavy landslides around GIS building, consequent to heavy rain in Chamba region," the company said in a regulatory filing.
The 231 MW Chamera-III is a run-of-the-river with small pondage scheme, situated in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh.
This power station is situated in comparatively lower Himalayan region and is being constructed amidst metamorphic rocks of Chamba formation on river Ravi.
The power station is designed to generate 1108.17 million units annually in a 90 per cent dependable year. Units I, II,III were commissioned on June 28, 2012 respectively.
