National Human Rights Commission today issued a notice to the DGP of Haryana and SSP of Katihal district after a person wanted in connection with an attack on Dalits at Pabwana village, who was reported to be absconding, resurfaced and attacked a Dalit boy.
The notice was issued after NHRC took suo motu cognisance of a media report about the incident.
Giving four weeks' time to Haryana government to submit a report, the rights body has also asked the police to respond to a previous notice relating to fleeing of 100 Dalits from the same village after being attacked by members of the upper caste.
According to the NHRC statement, even as a response is awaited on the earlier notice, the latest violent incident resulted in grievous injuries to the boy who has been admitted to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Research in Chandigarh.
The Commission has observed that the content of the news report, if true, raises a serious issue of the violation of human rights.
