According to a statement released by NHRC, a notice in this regard was issued to the Commissioner, South-East Delhi Municipal Corporation calling for a factual report on the incident within two weeks.
The notice was served after the Commission took suo motu cognizance of media reports that a four-year-old boy died after he slipped in an open manhole in Jaitpur, South-East Delhi on Wednesday. The body, however, could be fished out only the next morning after rescue work by the police and the Fire Department personnel.
The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious violation of human rights of the child.
