National Human Rights Commission today sought report from Bihar government over the alleged Independence Day incident in which a man was stoned to death and 40 others were injured in violence when they tried to unfurl the tricolour against the diktat of upper caste men.
According to an NHRC statement released today, the Commission has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and DGP, Bihar asking them to submit reports in this matter within four weeks.
The notices were issued after NHRC took suo motu cognisance of a media report.
On August 15, a dalit man was reportedly stoned to death and at least 40 others, including women and children, were seriously injured in violence when they tried to unfurl the national flag at the site of a temple against the alleged diktat by upper caste men in Dandwa Baddi village of Rohtas district in Bihar.
The Commission has observed that the media report, if true, raises a serious issue of violation of human rights of the weaker sections of the society.
