National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today sought reports from the director of a city based college and local police authorities over an alleged case of ragging and police inaction.
The Commission has issued notices to the Director, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Institute for the Physically Handicapped (DDUIPH) here and the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Delhi, seeking reports in a complaint alleging ragging and assault by senior students and police inaction.
"They have been given two weeks time to respond. The Director of the Institute has also been asked to provide adequate protection to the first year students," a statement released by NHRC said.
The complainants comprising a group of first year students alleged that on September 27 some seniors in their institute ill-treated and harassed them and when they objected, they were beaten up.
They also alleged that they called the police but it did not take any action, the statement said.
