Nickel prices were up 0.39% to Rs 610.60 per kg in futures market today after speculators widened bets, tracking a firm trend in the spot market on increased demand from alloy makers and select base metals rising overseas last week.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, nickel for delivery in May gained Rs 2.40 or 0.39% to Rs 610.60 per kg in a business turnover of 98 lots.

In a similar manner, the metal for delivery in April rose Rs 1.0 or 0.38% to Rs 603.90 per kg in 98 lots.

Analysts said that apart from increased domestic demand from alloy makers and other consuming industries, strength in select base metals overseas supported the uptrend in nickel futures.
