At the Multi Commodity Exchange, nickel for delivery in February edged up by Rs 1.30, or 0.18 per cent, to Rs 725 per kg in business turnover of 959 lots.
Similarly, the metal for delivery in March contracts traded higher by Rs 1.20, or 0.16 per cent, to Rs 730.20 per kg in 241 lots.
Market analysts said increasing of positions by participants owing to pick up in demand from alloy-makers in the spot market, mainly attributed the rise in nickel prices at futures trade.
