Nickel prices gained 0.36 per cent to Rs 639.40 per kg in futures trade today as speculators built up positions, supported by rising demand from alloy-makers in the spot market even as base metals retreated overseas.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, nickel for delivery in current month moved up by Rs 2.30, or 0.36 per cent, to Rs 639.40 per kg in a business turnover of 466 lots.
Similarly, the metal for delivery in April traded higher by Rs 2, or 0.31 per cent, to Rs 646.20 per kg in a business turnover of 57 lots.
Analysts said speculators enlarged positions on a firming trend at the domestic spot markets on better demand from consuming industries, which mainly influenced nickel prices in futures trade.
