Nifty advances 43 pts on short-covering

Benchmark Nifty gained another 43 points today to finish at 9,143.80 on short-covering ahead of the expiry of derivative contracts coupled with strong foreign capital inflows.
The 50-share index has gained 98.60 points or 1.09 per cent in two days.
"The Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices closed with gains of 0.12 per cent and 0.46 per cent, respectively. Financials and banking shares underpinned market gains for the second day in a row.
"The Nifty PSU Bank, Financial Services and FMCG indices gained 1.59 per cent, 0.88 per cent and 0.87 per cent, respectively to stay on top of the sector chart. Nifty Pharma, Auto and Realty indices declined 0.74 per cent, 0.43 per cent and 0.35 per cent, respectively," Anupam Singhi, COO, William O'Neil India said.
Major gainers from the Nifty 50 were Bharti Infratel (5.71 per cent), SBI (2.25 per cent), HCL Tech (2.06 per cent), ICICI Bank (1.88 per cent) and Hindalco (1.40 per cent).
However, Hero Motoco fell 3.08 per cent, Sun Pharma 1.57 per cent, Aurobindo Pharma 1.29 per cent, Grasim 0.73 per cent and Tata Motors 0.71 per cent.

A total of 704 scrips advanced, 971 declined, while 70 remained unchanged.
Turnover in the cash segment rose to Rs 31,914.95 crore from Rs 24,395.85 crore yesterday.
A total of 14,094.60 lakh shares changed hands in 9,108,022 trades. The market capitalisation of listed firms stood at Rs 11,879,337 crore.
