In overseas markets, Asian stocks ended mixed. Stocks in Japan rose for the sixth trading session in a row amid continued expectations that the Bank of Japan will soon roll out stimulus for the economy. The Nikkei 225 Average ended 1.37 per cent higher.
The 50-share Nifty resumed higher at 8,514.30 and hovered in a range of 8,540.05 and 8,476.70 before closing at 8,528.55, showing a net rise of 19.85 points, or 0.23 per cent from its last close.
In sectoral front, Nifty Energy rose by 1.55 per cent, followed by Media (1.10 per cent), Pharma (0.78 per cent), Metal (0.47 pc), Infra (0.42 pct) and Auto (0.37 per cent).
However, FMCG fell 0.61 pct and Realty by 0.49 pct.

Index gainers included, BPCL (2.88 per cent), Idea (2.36 per cent), ICICI Bank (2.18 per cent), PowerGrid (1.96 per cent) and Tata Motors (1.91 pct).
A total 906 stocks declined, 695 advanced, while 84 ruled stable. Total securities that hit their price bands today stood at 95.
Turnover in cash segment rose to Rs 17,502.86 crore from Rs 17,425.41 crore as on Monday.
A total of 10,511.45 lakh shares changed hands in 70,74,237 trades. The market capitalisation of NSE stood at Rs 103,78,427.72 crore.
