Nifty ends above 8,800-mark on global rally

NSE Nifty today ended 28.55 points up at 8,808 following rally in global peers ahead of the central bank meetings in the US and Japan on the back of sustained buying seen mainly in the stocks of realty, metal, energy, media and infra, sectors.
In overseas markets, European shares edged higher, led by gains in banking and energy shares. Asian stocks rose with sentiment driven by a rebound in oil prices while traders were also keeping an eye on crucial monetary policy decisions due from the US and Japan later this week. Japan stock market remained closed today for a holiday.
The 50-share Nifty opened higher at 8,788.45 and moved in a range of 8,824.30 and 8,774.20 before ending at 8,808.40, showing a rise of 28.55 pts or 0.33 pct from its last close.
It witnessed an intra-day movement of about 50.01 pts.
On sectoral front, realty rose by (1.48 per cent) followed by metal (1.41 pct), energy (0.85 pct), media (0.79 pct), infra (0.71 pct), IT (0.62 pct), PSU bank (0.61 pct), pharma (0.35 pct), Pvt bank (0.33 pct) and auto (0.28 pct).
Notable Index gainers were IndusInd Bank (3.03 per cent), Auro Pharma (2.51 per cent), TCS (2.11 per cent), Tata Power (1.86 pct), Adaniports (1.84 pct) and ONGC (1.68 pct).
While, laggards included Maruti (1.46 percent), Axis Bank (1.30 pct), Bajaj Auto (1.20 per cent), InfraTel (0.80 per cent) HeroMotoco (0.69 pct) and HDFC Bank (0.60 pct).

A total of 856 scrips advanced, 755 declined, while 88 remained unchanged. Total securities that hit their price bands were 105.
Turnover in cash segment fell to Rs 19,226.37 crore from Rs 31,684.12 crore last Friday.
A total of 9,450.58 lakh shares changed hands in 74,98,517 trades. The market capitalisation of NSE stood at Rs 1,09,39,291.84 crore.
