In overseas markets, European shares edged higher, led by gains in banking and energy shares. Asian stocks rose with sentiment driven by a rebound in oil prices while traders were also keeping an eye on crucial monetary policy decisions due from the US and Japan later this week. Japan stock market remained closed today for a holiday.
It witnessed an intra-day movement of about 50.01 pts.
On sectoral front, realty rose by (1.48 per cent) followed by metal (1.41 pct), energy (0.85 pct), media (0.79 pct), infra (0.71 pct), IT (0.62 pct), PSU bank (0.61 pct), pharma (0.35 pct), Pvt bank (0.33 pct) and auto (0.28 pct).
Notable Index gainers were IndusInd Bank (3.03 per cent), Auro Pharma (2.51 per cent), TCS (2.11 per cent), Tata Power (1.86 pct), Adaniports (1.84 pct) and ONGC (1.68 pct).
