Nifty ends lower by 66 pts on fresh selling pressure

NSE benchmark Nifty dropped by 65.85 points to end at 8,140.75 due to fresh selling pressure, mainly in banking, auto, finance, media, infra and realty sectors on the back of foreign capital outflows.
Heavy selling pressure in the global market after Bank of Japan kept policy rates unchanged and refrained from offering more stimulus affected market sentiment.
US Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen reiterated global growth concerns, while Britain's potential exit from the European Union also weighed on sentiment.
Foreign portfolio investors sold shares worth net Rs 108.23 crore yesterday, as per provisional data.
A total of 542 scrips firmed up, 1,036 declined while 69 ruled steady.
The NSE 50-share index opened lower at 8,180.65 and fell further to 8,074.45 before ending at 8,140.75, showing a loss of 65.85 points or 0.80 per cent.

Major losers were Bharti Infratel (4.63 per cent), ICICI Bank (3.59 per cent), Maruti (2.98 per cent), UltraTech Cement (2.43 per cent) and IndusInd Bank (2.07 per cent).
Gainers included Hindalco (2.85 per cent), Gail India (1.35 per cent), Eicher Motor (1.02 per cent), Asian Paints (0.82 per cent) and Adani Ports (0.72 per cent).
Turnover in cash segment rose to Rs 18,345.19 crore from Rs 16,593.58 crore yesterday. A total of 12,309.49 lakh shares changed hands in 83,42,556 trades.
The market capitalisation of NSE stood at Rs 98,43,151.39 crore.
