The NSE 50-share Nifty index opened higher at 8,196.05 and hovered in a range of 8,219.10 and 8,148.60 before ending at 8,192.25, showing a modest rise of 12.75 points or 0.16 per cent.

On the sectoral front, Auto fell by 0.29 per cent and IT 0.05 per cent.
Media rose by 1.75 per cent, Energy 1.20 per cent, FMCG 0.74 per cent, PSU Bank 0.62 per cent, Pvt Bank 0.49 per cent, Realty 0.46 per cent, Bank 0.37 per cent, Metal 0.36 per cent and Infra 0.91 per cent.
Major Index gainers were Power Grid (2.40 per cent), Bhel (1.88 per cent), Coal India (1.75 per cent), Axis Bank (1.68 per cent) and Yes Bank (1.59 per cent).
However, Bharti Airtel fell by 2.11 per cent, followed by Idea (2.07 per cent), Hero Motocorp (1.45 per cent), Bosch (1.41 per cent) and UltraTech Cement (1.32 per cent).
Turnover in the cash segment rose to Rs 15,711.89 crore from Rs 13,590.33 crore yesterday.
A total of 8,493.17 lakh shares changed hands in 6,770,077 trades. The market capitalisation of NSE stood at Rs 10,549,925.62 crore.
