People in the metropolis might be able to bring out light woolens for the first time this season with the Met department forecasting a dip in night temperatures by at least three to four degrees from Wednesday.
Depression over the Bay of Bengal during the past few weeks robbed the city of the usual November chill as rains and cloudy weather prevented the night temperatures from going below 20C.
"With the northerly winds gaining momentum and reaching south Bengal, night temperatures will go down by a few notches this week," Regional Met director G K Das said. The entry of the northerly winds from the Himalayas was so far blocked by the moisture-laden wind movement from the Bay of Bengal, Das told PTI here.
The minimum temperature today stood at 23.5 Celsius, which is three notches above average, the Met department said.
Normal life in south Bengal, including Kolkata, was affected by intermittent rains from Wednesday to Friday owing to a depression over the Bay of Bengal.
Diwali celebrations in the city and its neighbouring districts were also marred by overnight rain and strong winds caused by a depression.
Exasperated with wet weather and accompanying tropical diseases like dengue and malaria, people in this city might now be able to put away their raincoats and bring out winter garments.
